PRP Hair Growth

Platelet Rich Plasma treatment is a pioneer in hair growth technology. PRP treatment is able to grow hair in two to three sessions. This is a life changing treatment with zero downtime and no risk. This is an all natural, chemical free treatment using your own blood to facilitate hair follicle growth. This effective, innovative treatment is available at Sikora Integrative Medicine.

How Does PRP Work?

Human blood contains mesenchymal stem cells and growth factors that regenerate and heal tissue. PRP has been used safely for over 20 years in oral surgery, neurosurgery, plastic and cosmetic surgery, sports medicine and orthopedics. In the field of hair restoration, PRP stimulates inactive or newly implanted hair follicles into an active growth phase.

So Why Does Hair Loss Occur?

Hair loss occurs when the scalp stops receiving those chemical signals that tell it to grow new hair from existing follicles. When that happens, the follicles shrink and eventually close up, preventing new hair from growing out of them. Even if hair does continue to grow, it often becomes thinner, wispier, or of a coarser and less reliable texture. In some cases, conditions such as androgenetic alopecia cause unnatural hair loss. This, as well as other genetic conditions (including simple baldness) often explain hair loss. Other explanations include medications, hormonal changes or simple genetic predisposition.
The problem with baldness or thinning hair is that you are born with all the hair follicles you will ever have. While it’s a generous amount – about 5 million bodywide and roughly 500,000 on your scalp – it’s still not enough to make up for hair that dies over time. You lose between 50 and 100 hairs per day, so if you don’t make up for those hairs, thinning occurs quickly. (That’s almost 4,000 a year that might not get replaced!)

How Do You Perform The Procedure?

Blood is drawn in our office and then prepared in out Emcyte Executive Series Centrifuge, , which provides 1 billion platelets per milliliter. We provide an anesthesia block is given to nerves of the scalp so the procedure does not cause pain. We can provide additional anesthesia with the use of Pronox and topical numbing cream. The potent PRP is then injected or nicroneedled into the areas of the scalp in which hair growth is desired.

PRP specific cells that causes hair growth include:

  • Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (PDGF)—promotes blood vessel growth, cell replication, skin formation;
  • Transforming Growth-Factor-Beta (TGF-b)—promotes growth of matrix between cells, bone metabolism;
  • Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF)—promotes blood vessel formation;
  • Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)—promotes cell growth and differentiation, blood vessel formation, collagen formation;
  • Fibroblast Growth Factor-2 (FGF-2)—promotes growth of specialized cells and blood vessel formation; and,
  • Insulin Like Growth Factor – (IGF)—a regulator of normal physiology in nearly every type of cell in the body

What Makes Hair Grow Anew?

Regenerative medicine can help the body repair itself when it wouldn’t otherwise have the ability to do so. Growth factors and stem cells stimulate inactive hair follicles to become active ones. Hence we can jump-start the growth process and fight baldness.
